Individual Adult Psychotherapy.

Let’s work together.

You’ve taken the first steps by reading and seeking out answers to what troubles you. We always focus on your goals- hopes and dreams to drive the work we do together. Psychotherapy is a process of self discovery, using your strengths and skills to get you feeling better. Jean applies an intersubjective curiosity to deeply understand your experiences and perspectives. When we connect in understanding we find the wisdom you possess. When coping skills and strategies “don’t work” it’s easy to feel like you are getting it wrong, yet often the skill or strategy is coming up short -not you. As we work towards your goals together, we honor your inherent resilience and strength and build from the bottom up. To do this we aren’t going to stick to one modality, we are going to find ones that work for you. In the same way that not all birds fly, people don’t all use the same techniques to manage living in what is sometimes a chaotic world. This is why we like to say we help you find your wings, be those penguin, kiwi, ostrich, parrot or hummingbird wings.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing is a structured trauma therapy that helps people “shift” old beliefs, thoughts, emotions and sensations after experiencing traumatic events. Eye movements are paired with brief periods where you are asked to think about the memory and notice your responses with therapist guidance to bring you towards resolving symptoms of anxiety, depression, nightmares, flashbacks, pain sensations associated with the traumatic memory. At times these sessions can be intense, but you will never be alone, and we will always work towards you feeling okay to leave the office at the end of the sessions.

Creative Expression

When we allow ourselves to brave what lies outside our comfort zone by bringing our most useful tools along, the sky or deep ocean may be the start rather than the limit. From bringing in art supplies for anyone who struggles to visualize images, to using fairytale heroes to explore life themes, or simply including music that you find soothing all are all welcome in our healing space. This strengths-based approach, lets us bring in what already helps you into your therapy and enhance the healing process. By using what is comfortable for you we are able to ensure the tools you develop go with you when you complete your therapy process.
